Rounding off

Good morning folks

Hope you're having a great day today.

This is how I left it yesterday, with the curved housings on the top and bottom of the centerpieces.

It just looked like those rounded corners should be on the outside corners as well. So I made a set of 4 rounded pieces to frame in the two outer halves.

And this is what it looks like so far.

So, what am I going to put in those big empty spaces? I have an idea, but you'll just have to wait till tomorrow to find out.

Centered

Hello people,

It does look like the two elements belong in the center.

I made a curved housing around the top round piece

Two glue bottle caps make nice additions to the top element.

Then I made a matching housing for the bottom of the lower element.

I like the way that this is shaping up and have some more ideas for tomorrow.

See ya then

Wired

Hello folks,
I have made a variety of sizes of piping for this project.

A refillable glue pen is handy for small work.

I used some small plastic beads as part of the machine, cleaning the paint out of the holes.

Black wiring adds a nice contrast to the silver.

Well that's all folks - for today.

Fins and scallops

Goodday people,

It's been raining alot, so I've been getting a lot of work done on this piece. I started painting it and I added some plates on the sides.

A close-up of the detail work.

I made some scalloped fins - something having to do with cooling or ventilation - I reckon.

keep it cool

see ya tomorrow

Struts and Beams

Hi folks,

I have added beams and struts to one end of the form. It is setting up to dry.
The beams are thin strips of foamboard.

I also added ribs across the form

and added a lot of pipes. I've started painting them.

be the change you want to see in the world

Beginning at the beginning

greetings

Today I started on a new project, I don't have any idea of how this will look, I just start making an interesting shape. All I know is that it will be a mechanical piece.

Rubberbands hold the forms into shape until the glue dries.

The insides of the forms are reinforced with ribs.

Now I have a form to build off of.

More tomorrow

Vanilla Blue

Good morning folks

Worked all yesterday on this one. . .

and it 's finished!!

We have found that a underexposure helps show the depth and the shadows that you can see in person.
So now I'm off on another project. It has finally stopped raining so I'm going to spray paint the entire silversnake box silver.

White on White

Hello again,

This has been a busy couple of days -

It's been raining buckets here and the only thing to do is to stay inside and create.

The white on white makes a nice effect - shadows highlight the layers

All the boxes are filled. Now I have to finish it up. It still needs more

See what happens today.

Shadows

Hi folks,
While I'm waiting on the glass for the silversnakes piece, I started working on the littlest box.

I began filling the nine small boxes with layers of plain white forms.

These forms were the leftovers from where I cut out the birdlike figures for Odyssey Merging.

It is slow careful work getting these little boxes filled.

More tomorrow

Crankin' it back up

Hi ya'll,
I've been doing some different stuff, and I got out one of my old pieces that had been unfinished for a while (since 2003!).
It had good insides but bad outsides - so I made a new box for it. Next to see about getting some blue glass to go over the top.

And while that is in the works, I have made another large box to fill up - maybe it sitting around empty will give inspiration.

And since I haven't got my vision for a large piece yet, I made a smaller box. And I'm filling it with 9 smaller boxes.

Not sure what will go in them yet, they'll be improv too. Back to work and see ya later
be creative

Odyssey Merging with the Flow

Well folks, it's finished - and it looks pretty good,

and getting ready to be taken to the framers shop.

I went through and touched up all the figures with white to make them stand out better.

You can still see some of the plastic netting that is in the middle layers. I tried to not cover up as much stuff this time.

I'm real pleased with it - it has a nice feel. Hope you like it too.

The Final Odyssey

All along it seemed like something was missing in this piece.
I had been working with harmonizing the forms and they needed something to unify the flow.

So I have made a lot of various white forms - vaguely resembling birds in flight.

I like the result so far and will continue the flow down to the opposite corner.

This will take me a while, but I will keep you posted on how it goes.

Continuing Merging

Hi folks,
I'm still at work, but there isn't much to see at this point.

I'm going over the entire piece, from place to place making little changes to bring the squigglies and rightangles in harmony with one another.

The piece is getting great depth, detail and color.

Next I'm thinking of adding some more white circles.
We'll see how it turns out.

And Now for Something Different

I do other kinds of art besides the shadowboxes. Some pictures of me working on this blog show my pants. I have about six pair of Levi's that I have had for about 11 years.

front
As they wear a hole - Littia patches them. They have gotten a lot of patches over the years, and repatched in places. This is another way that I recycle things.

back
I also paint them and draw on them. This is one of the pairs that have been recently painted and patched.

They say the children of Israel wandered around in their clothes for 40 years and they didnt wear out.

Back to work now.

Stripes

I find my self trying to balance the round flowing shapes with the angular grid shapes.

So I have added most of the straight pieces in the opposite corner.

When I got that done, I recessed another circle all the way down to the floor. and filled it with a red and white pattern.
