White on White

Hello again,

This has been a busy couple of days -

It's been raining buckets here and the only thing to do is to stay inside and create.

The white on white makes a nice effect - shadows highlight the layers

All the boxes are filled. Now I have to finish it up. It still needs more

See what happens today.

Shadows

Hi folks,
While I'm waiting on the glass for the silversnakes piece, I started working on the littlest box.

I began filling the nine small boxes with layers of plain white forms.

These forms were the leftovers from where I cut out the birdlike figures for Odyssey Merging.

It is slow careful work getting these little boxes filled.

Crankin' it back up

Hi ya'll,
I've been doing some different stuff, and I got out one of my old pieces that had been unfinished for a while (since 2003!).
It had good insides but bad outsides - so I made a new box for it. Next to see about getting some blue glass to go over the top.

And while that is in the works, I have made another large box to fill up - maybe it sitting around empty will give inspiration.

And since I haven't got my vision for a large piece yet, I made a smaller box. And I'm filling it with 9 smaller boxes.

Not sure what will go in them yet, they'll be improv too. Back to work and see ya later
be creative

Odyssey Merging with the Flow

Well folks, it's finished - and it looks pretty good,

and getting ready to be taken to the framers shop.

I went through and touched up all the figures with white to make them stand out better.

You can still see some of the plastic netting that is in the middle layers. I tried to not cover up as much stuff this time.

I'm real pleased with it - it has a nice feel. Hope you like it too.

The Final Odyssey

All along it seemed like something was missing in this piece.
I had been working with harmonizing the forms and they needed something to unify the flow.

So I have made a lot of various white forms - vaguely resembling birds in flight.

I like the result so far and will continue the flow down to the opposite corner.

This will take me a while, but I will keep you posted on how it goes.

Continuing Merging

Hi folks,
I'm still at work, but there isn't much to see at this point.

I'm going over the entire piece, from place to place making little changes to bring the squigglies and rightangles in harmony with one another.

The piece is getting great depth, detail and color.

Next I'm thinking of adding some more white circles.
We'll see how it turns out.

Stripes

I find my self trying to balance the round flowing shapes with the angular grid shapes.

So I have added most of the straight pieces in the opposite corner.

When I got that done, I recessed another circle all the way down to the floor. and filled it with a red and white pattern.

Back at work, again

Hi friendly folks,
I just started back to work when my back told me I had to take some time off. These blog posts usually run about a week behind realtime. So now I'm back at it again and have some new pictures.

Also wanted to mention that Rising Fawn Folk Art will be showing some of my pieces at the Outsiders Outside Art Fair in Harbert Michigan on the weekend of Sept 4-6th.

I added some more squigglies.

And then started with some more right angled bars in the top right corner.

This is an angle shot of the new pieces.

Snaking around

I have started branching out little with the wave forms.

Some have gone up and snaked around the central yellow line.

Close-ups of the dense waves in the corner.

Back to work

I started back to work this Friday - Aug 21

And I started adding more colorful waves in the lower left quadrant of the piece.

This is an angle shot to show the layers.

And this is an interesting close-up of the 'pendulum' triangles.

Taking Time to Visit with Folks

This show was all so big and busy with so many people - but we took some time out to chill and visit with the guests.
We met many interesting people - (and took pictures of some of them).

Shane Campbell with Randall Lott and Jim Browne. Shane ended up in a lot of our pictures - maybe because he wasn't in any shape to run away from us!

Shane's son and his friend dropped by to visit.

And for last - 'Bebo' - cool guy (and fellow artist who was staying at the same hotel)- along with Paul Flack - taking a break after a long day.
Many thanks to all the other new friends that we met and we look forward to seeing you all again

Back to work
See ya soon

Meet the Happy New Owners

Haint with Jim and Lynne Browne. I had blogged earlier about her article about my work in the latest edition of the Folk Art Messenger. She broought me a personalized copy of the magazine, she had signed - how cool was that!? The Brownes already had a piece of my work that they had acquired last year and took home a companion mandala piece from this year's Folkfest. Thanks Jim and Lynne - Peace and Love

Lynne with the artist and her new love!

Eric Moeller also came back for more this year. In this photo he is enchanted by the 'Sorceror's Industrial Abomination' - the latest addition to his collection.

Keepin it cool . .

Artists and art dealers at FolkFest 2009

Today we are posting some pictures of some of our neighbors from the show.

This is Ginger Young's booth. They had a lot of colorful butterfly works and a set of very intriguing wood carvings in flowing organic shapes.

Shane Campbell with 'Devil Jim' and his crow trees on the table. Shane paid us a brief visit in his Ninja Turtle suit, before returning to Chattanooga to recover from back surgery. Get well soon, Shane.

Mickey Beth was our neighbor on the other side. Her booth was chock full of Americana and folk art treasures.

Stay tuned tomorrow when we will visit with the enthusiastic buyers who scored a piece of my work at the show.

Fitting it In

The pink line had gotten messed up when I cut out the circle.

And I touched it up with the pink acrylic paint pen

Now all nice and ready to install the center part
