I'm still working on filling this thing in.I use a lot of repurposed junk for interesting shapes.

I'm starting to go back and fill in details over the large base forms.


I have added some piping below the 'engine'



and some above.

Fantasy Factory

Hi Everybodeee
Hope all is well in your world today.


I've been adding little details to the last elements. I've added some pulleys and gears.



I still have a lot to do, but for now I am building out the last large forms.



I'm working with the shape of the ductwork to finish off the bottom layers.

Silver Arches

Hello People,

Hope you are all having a wonderful day.


Well - it took me a couple of days and several tries to get the effect that I was going for
but I finally got some arches over the grids connecting to the bottom platform. and added trim.



This is an angle shot showing the arches.


Then I made a little change and added some more of a almost not in the picture layer in the corners.

New Curliques box

Hi Folks,

We got a lot of snow this week. Perfect for working.


I started a new box this week.


The first element is in place.


I'm looking at doing something mechanical, ornate and symmetrical. We'll see what happens. . . Peace and love Haint

Wired

Hello folks,
I have made a variety of sizes of piping for this project.


A refillable glue pen is handy for small work.


I used some small plastic beads as part of the machine, cleaning the paint out of the holes.


Black wiring adds a nice contrast to the silver.

Taking Time to Visit with Folks

This show was all so big and busy with so many people - but we took some time out to chill and visit with the guests.
We met many interesting people - (and took pictures of some of them).


Shane Campbell with Randall Lott and Jim Browne. Shane ended up in a lot of our pictures - maybe because he wasn't in any shape to run away from us!


Shane's son and his friend dropped by to visit.




And for last - 'Bebo' - cool guy (and fellow artist who was staying at the same hotel)- along with Paul Flack - taking a break after a long day.
Many thanks to all the other new friends that we met and we look forward to seeing you all again

Details

Some close-ups of the detail work.



I haven't 'rusted-up' many of the nail-heads yet and there is still some touch-up here and there.



The pictures are a good tool to see what needs doing to make it more realistic.

Licence Plates

I was thinking about the things that I have seen people put on the sides of old buildings like that.


One of my earliest memories were of the black and white Tennessee state-shaped
license plates hanging on my granpaw's shed. So we looked them up on the internet since my memory of 1949 is not that good.



I also remembered the saw blades he had hanging up. They were rusty. This piece is an experiment in rusting and ageing.

Window

This piece is becoming a still life. I made a window frame using the matboard in the same way that a real window would be constructed. I put several layers of different colored paint on it and then scraped parts off when they had dried.



I used a piece of thin clear plastic packaging to make the 'glass'.



Here's a pic of me holding the box for an idea of the scale.

Pipes and Sign

I installed the meter.


and added some joints, and fittings. Then I put in some vent piping


I also wasn't quite happy with the meter and made the bolts on the front plate 3d. I installed a sign, and rusted up the new pipes and joints.

What next?

I'm cutting out shapes from foamboard to make a gas meter shape.


I drew the dials, and made a cover from some clear plastic.


The meter in place.

Going to install the gas lines tomorrow.

The Wall

I have laid out my 'tin' sheets to make a wall for a background.


Then I installed a large pipe


and tried to make it look rusty.

Rusty Tin

I think that this box will be back to the mechanical industrial style.

I had an idea about using corrugated cardboard to look like corrugated tin


I have cut out a bunch of 'sheets' and painted them with a silverish layer and now I'm experimenting with rusty washes to give the weathering effect

Tubular Stationary Rotary Mechanism

A final layer of large wheels are added to unify the piece.
A silver one to the left to the large gold 'fan'.


And another large silver one over the big gold element


And . . . . the finished piece! Now titled - Tubular Stationary Rotary Mechanism

Haint is starting on another project next week. This one will be a little different. He wants to take a break from the machines and has a design in color that he has been working on in his spare spare-time. I will post pics of this new venture next time.

Haint has added diagonal tubes to the top of the piece


These diagonals are repeated below


A large beam on the other diagonal balances the piece


And a long tube unifies it
